We upgraded the starting battery in Campbell, our Toyota Land Cruiser. Even though we added an auxiliary battery to run our dry-camping needs, the main battery must handle a considerable load, especially with a winch.
Campbell has enough room for a group-31 size battery, which has more capacity than the standard group-24 battery.
We installed the Slee Offroad battery kit to secure the new battery. It includes all of the parts to fit the larger battery and is well built.
We strapped in an Interstate 31P-AGM7. It is recommended for the tray, and I prefer pure-lead AGM cells. Cocoon, our Casita travel trailer, uses the same battery.
It has plenty of cranking amps, and Casita owners are getting good life from it as a house battery on a converter. Campbell and Cocoon using the same part could be a benefit.
I also replaced the alternator-sense fuse (ALT-S) with a GM diode to match the AGM chemistry charging voltage.
It increased the charging voltage range by 0.7 volts. The range was 13.3 to 13.8 volts, and after it is 14.0 to 14.5 volts.
The gallery below shows some pictures of the installation.
